A new company’s customizable satchels, totes, clutches, and more offer bespoke luxury for the internet age.
For the woman with exquisite taste and a handful of ‘it’ bags already in her closet, 1Atelier’s do-it-yourself model offers a fresh, contemporary take on finding the must-have purse of the moment. The site, which launches this week, preps the canvas for creativity by offering a handful of perennial shapes, a bouquet of sumptuous skins, and an invitation to the fledgling couturier to let their imaginination run away with the rest: Piping, hardware, pockets, straps, and embossed monograms all lay in the hands of the designer—leading to thousands of unique possibilities.
Founded by three design world veterans whose shared past experience includes famed accessory houses like Chanel, Mark Cross, and Coach, the company seeks to reinvent old world bespoke luxury for the modern market—and the modern woman. As 1Atelier’s master craftsman, Anthony Luciano, explains, “bringing tech to couture—that makes me proudest."
The attentiveness provided by the 1Atelier team is a perfect complement to their luxurious product; should you falter while designing, on-call stylists are happy to help inspire and guide; and whether your bag runs $1,000 or $10,000, the atelier will take it back, no questions asked, if it isn’t quite the master work you had envisioned.
CEO Stephanie Sarka divulges that new exotic skins and colors might pop up unexpectedly, while creative director Frank Zambrelli hints at an expansion into footwear and other leather goods in the near future. We’ll be waiting with bated breath—with a new one-of-a-kind bag on our arm.
